Casper: 1995 / PG / 93 Min. The friendly ghost makes his big-screen debut in this feature. Good special effects and some funny cameo appearances are the highlights, but some plot aspects (death and resurrection of a family member) may be too intense for some youngsters. Ernest- Scared Stupid: 1991 / PG / 91 Min. It's Ernest against an evil troll in this slapstick Halloween treat. This horror spoof is actually the best of the Ernest series. Rated PG for some scary imagery. The Haunted Mansion: 2003 / PG / 88 Min. Based on the Disney theme park attraction, this family-friendly fright fest stars Eddie Murphy as a real estate agent who just can't resist the chance to list stately Gracey Manor. Much silliness ensues. It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: 1966 / NR / 26 Min. This classic holiday cartoon has Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang gearing up for Halloween. Fun for all ages. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: 1949 / NR / 49 Min. Walt Disney Studio's excellent animated telling of Icabod Crane's run in with the Headless Horseman. Great spooky storytelling, narrated by Bing Crosby. Monsters, Inc.: 2001 / G / 88 Min. From the animation wizards at Pixar comes this buddy comedy about all of those "things" that go bump in the night. Starring the vocal talents of Billy Crystal and John Goodman. Spaced Invaders: 1990 / PG / 100 Min. Very silly spoof about pint-sized Martians who mistake a 50th Anniversary broadcast of War of the Worlds for actual invasion orders. Rated PG for mildly vulgar humor. Steven Spielberg's Toonsylvania: 1999 / NR / 82 Min. This is a feature length loony monster toon based on the FOX Family TV show. Features the voice of Wayne Knight (Seinfeld, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Jurassic Park) as Igor, the 3-foot hunchback. Many of the titles from the Creepy Comedies section are also appropriate for family viewing. |
