The Digital Zone: Featuring the best scary entertainment on DVD! |
The House That Dripped Blood (1970) Horror Category: Classic Starring: Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing MPAA: Rated PG for scary images
DVD features 16x9 Widescreen Presentation Interview with Producer Max J. Rosenberg Subtitles for the hearing impaired: English & Spanish |
The house is like any other. Just a construct of wood, stone, and brick. Why then, do strange fates befall all who enter? This is the mystery that Inspector Holloway of Scotland Yard finds himself investigating in The House That Dripped Blood. In the spirit of The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery comes this anthology of macabre tales concerning the various tenants of an old country manor. The House That Dripped Blood is great stuff, with everything the retro-horror fan craves. Vampires, psychos, witchcraft, a wax museum, a creepy little kid, and of course, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Oddly, the one thing it doesn't have is dripping blood. (must be a metaphor!)

The Eye (2002) Horror Category: International - East Asia Starring: Lee Sin-Je, Lawrence Chou, Chutcha Rujinanon MPAA: Rated R for some disturbing images.
DVD features 16x9 Widescreen Presentation / 5.1 Surround Sound / Making of featurette / Trailers / Previews / Weblinks Language: Cantonese and Thai with English subtitles |

A young woman has cornea transplant surgery to restore her eyesight. Soon, she's seeing better than ever, and more than ever! Ghostly forms appear only to her. Are they visions of the past? Of the future? Or is she beginning to lose her mind? Stylish and suspenseful, The Eye is one of the best supernatural thrillers since The Ring. Our unlikely heroine is Mun, blind since the age of two, who regains her vision and must make sense of the strange things she can now see. The cool part is that The Eye also keeps the audience in the dark, never telegraphing its secrets. As a result, we are placed in the same position as Mun, and share in her growing terror. Definitely a worthy addition to the "I see dead people" genre! |

Cronos (1992) Horror Category: International - Mexico Starring: Frederico Luppi, Ron Perlman, Claudio Brooke, Margarita Isabel, Tamara Shanath MPAA: Rated R for horror, violence and language.
DVD features 16x9 Widescreen Presentation / 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound / Directors' Commentary / Producer's Commentary / Making of featurette / Image Galleries / Director's Perspective Subtitles for the hearing impaired: English & Spanish |

Immortality... a miracle or a curse? 400 years ago, a great alchemist and inventor pondered that question. Now, an elderly antiques dealer has unearthed the ingenious machine that holds the answer. Unfortunately, others also long to know its secrets. There's a lot going on in Cronos. It is the story of an ordinary man, placed in very extraordinary circumstances. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, Cronos combines horror and science-fiction with the style and depth of Hitchcock thrillers like North by Northwest. Acting highlights include Frederico Luppi as the antiques dealer and Hellboy's Ron Perlman as the evil henchman who desires the machine. Speaking of the machine, it's a really nasty little device. Shaped like a large gold beetle, it features a clockwork mechanism that allows it to grab hold of and impale its user, with supernatural results. (Cool!) |

Here's a low-budget fright-fest that features a priest and an atheist in mortal combat against the forces of evil. It seems that the world is being overrun by vampires! An easy fight, you say? Just wait for daylight? Not so fast, because these vampires have a bunch of dreary goth goons to protect them! In the tradition of 28 Days Later and the Hammer flicks of the late sixties and early seventies, Midnight Mass is pure bloodsucking fun. Sure, the production values may be unintentionally amusing at times, but hey, at least it's entertaining! Midnight Mass makes a great addition to any Halloween party or other ghoulish gathering. Say your prayers! |
Midnight Mass (2002) Horror Category: Independent Starring: Douglas Gibson, Pamela Karp MPAA: Rated R for violence, gore, language, sexuality, nudity.
DVD features 16x9 Widescreen Presentation / Production Commentary / Blooper Reel / Stills Galleries / Behind the Camera featurette / Subtitles for the hearing impaired: English & Spanish |
