Cult Classics The Campy, The Crazy, The Cheesy, & The Cool!
Basket Case: 1982 / R / 91 Min. This is a weird horror/comedy about two siamese twins who seek revenge against the doctor who separated them. Very gross!!!
Bucket of Blood: 1959 / NR / 66 Min. From Roger Corman comes this beatnik/horror/comedy about a nerdy sculptor whose art becomes a smash hit with the cool set. What they don't know is that he just pours clay over murder victims to create his sculptures! This one is very much in the same style as the original Little Shop of Horrors. Chopping Mall: 1986 / R / 77 Min. Only in the 80's!!! Here's a fun little flick about teenagers who get trapped in a shopping mall after dark. They get terrorized by the mall's robot security droids. Lots of funny stuff, and good special effects, too! C.H.U.D.: 1984 / R / 88 Min. It stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, and this is a real low-budget creepfest. What makes it good are the stars, John Heard and Daniel Stern. The plot involves homeless people who have been turned into zombie-like mutants by radiation. Critters: 1986 / PG-13 / 90 Min. Not really scary, but parts of this sci-fi flick are downright hilarious. It's about some ravenous outer-space furballs that land on Earth and cause all kinds of trouble. Tracking them are two outer-space bounty hunters. Silly party fun! Eraserhead: 1978 / Not Rated / 90 Min. David Lynch is responsible for this really weird movie. I guess that was redundant, since Lynch only makes really weird movies. This one is beyond description, so go rent it, and don't say I didn't warn you! Evil Dead: 1982 / Not Rated / 86 Min. The Sam Raimi original, starring Bruce Campbell. Raimi does wonders with no budget in this horror/dark-comedy about college students who spend the weekend in a secluded cabin. And wouldn't you know, they just happen to awaken some rather nasty demons! Though this movie isn't rated, it is not one for the kiddies!!! Evil Dead 2 - Dead By Dawn: 1987 / R / 85 Min. Sort of a bigger budget remake/sequel to the original Evil Dead, this one is the same plot (if you can call it that!) as the first, but with much better special effects, more gore, and a lot more slapstick comedy. Fright Night: 1985 / R / 105 Min. Very cool horror spoof about a teenager who believes his next door neighbor to be a blood sucking vampire. To battle him, he asks for help from a former movie vampire hunter, played by Roddy McDowell. Buffy fans should dig this one! Killer Klowns From Outer Space: 1988 / PG-13 / 90 Min. The name says it all, but this sci-fi/horror/thriller is a lot better than you might think. And, after all, what could possibly be more scary than clowns? Little Shop of Horrors: 1960 / NR / 72 Min. The Roger Corman classic about a meek florist who creates a rather less meek man-eating plant. This great horror/comedy was shot on a nearly non-existent budget in only two days. Look for the very young, but already manic Jack Nicholson in this one! The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra: 2001 / PG / 90 Min. A screaming send-up of those cheesy 1950's fright flicks, but with even more cheese! Beware, for you too may fall victim to the mind-numbing powers of the Lost Skeleton of Cadavra!
Motel Hell: 1980 / R / 102 Min. A creepy little horror/comedy about an old farmer who makes some really tasty pork treats. The catch? That's not pork. Night of the Living Dead: 1968 / NR / 96 Min. George A. Romero's low-budget shocker. Hungry, staggering zombies feed on human brains in this darkly humorous gore-fest. See it with someone you love! Repo Man: 1984 / R / 92 Min. Emilio Estevez is a rookie repo-man learning the ropes from Harry Dean Stanton. Through some very strange circumstances, they encounter beings who may be aliens from outer space. Like all the films on this list, this one's way off the 'weird' scale.
Revenge of the Zombies: 1943 / NR / 61 Min. Quite possibly the best combination of low-budget mad scientists, zombies, and Nazis ever made. Well, actually it's the only movie with that combination. If this flick doesn't define the word "Camp", then I don't know what does! If you find this rarity, rent it!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 1975 / R / 100 Min. You COULD rent this and watch it at home, but I strongly suggest that you find a theatre running a midnight showing, get together with 8 or 10 friends, and have one of the weirdest, most fun experiences of your life. This sci-fi/horror/musical/comedy/parody is one of a kind! Tim Curry leads a fantasic cast in this rock & roll movie event.
Student Bodies: 1985 / R / 86 Min. Predating the Scream series by over a decade, this horror/parody pokes fun at the slasher film genre. Dated, but still scary fun.
